How Galen started.
Logan and Kushagra met as graduate students at Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Computer Science, where a healthcare machine-learning hackathon turned into a lasting partnership. They began in clinical AI — including Techstars’ first healthcare-AI accelerator at Johns Hopkins and a design collaboration with Mayo Clinic — and came away convinced that a central bottleneck in biomedicine sits upstream of the clinic: in our causal understanding of biology itself. That conviction is what Galen is built around. Today the company is based in San Francisco.
